In the small town of Stygian, New Mexico, people had lived their lives normally, just as anyone else in the other forty-nine states. It was one of those towns that you could walk around and everyone knew your name, your parents, your pets. It oozed of the friendly hospitality one would only see in such a small area. It made it especially easy to sort out outsiders from people who'd lived there all of their life. With their well known college, Stygian University, being deemed one of the top ten colleges in the nation, it wasn't a big deal when a college kid or two stepped into the town. Ten miles in nearly every direction, there is nothing. If you go far enough East, you get the equally small town of Wilkins. Anywhere else, you'd be traveling the desert for quite some time. The quiet and seclusion of the town is almost seductive to anyone running away from something. That's only if they can stand the brutal weather a desert town may bring. But life there as always been easy. Until now.
The problem with Stygian and the rest of the country is that they are now on the brink of a nuclear war. Nearly twenty major U.S. cities have been struck with an atomic bomb. Stygian is included. Off in the desert, not too far away, the first bomb struck Stygian. Since then, the town has been without communication. Cell phones, internet, radio frequencies. None of them work. Without knowing what has happened with the rest of world, some people have tried to leave. Needless to say, they haven't gotten too far. With buildings crumbled and people injured, others laying dead in the streets and sand, groups of people have made a makeshift base at a local school to help those injured. They work with the hospital to save lives. They call them the survivors.
But just like any time of crisis, a rebellion has grown. A group of people have risen, trying to take power, rebelling against the selfless nature of the survivors and striving together on their own. They kill, fight, steal whatever they can in order to make their lives easier. They are known as the rebels who reside in the old Corrigan Mansion at the edge of town. When it comes down to it, which side will you choose in the end? A town is left in disaster. Many have already left. But others have nowhere to go. They're miles away from anywhere. Their families are injured and cannot be moved. The place where they grew up has now fallen. The memories are all shattered.
As the rest of the country tries to quarantine themselves, no one really knows or cares too much about the town. As far as they are concerned Stygian, New Mexico has never existed. But how long would you last, in a town of chaos?
